On November 21, NCYSA Challenge Council held their Working Council meeting. During this council meeting and after open discussion, a motion was made and a 2 nd offered to eliminate the Challenge State Cup Championships for the current U10 age group beginning with the ’04-’05 season. In the ’05 –‘06 season the same would apply for the U10 and U11 age groups. In the ’06 –’07 season this would apply for U10, U11, and U12 age groups and will continue this way in the future.

This motion was voted on and passed by the challenge liaisons that were present for the meeting.   Since that meeting, I’ve heard from many individuals as well as associations involved in challenge soccer in North Carolina that do not support this decision.

Based on the opposition to eliminating Challenge State Cup for U10, U11, and U12 and the fact that I’ve received a formal motion to rescind the decision made on November 21, I am calling a Challenge Council Meeting to be held January 22, 2005 and State Cup will be the primary topic of discussion.

I realize this decision will be met with strong opposition as well as strong support but I believe it’s in the best interest of ALL involved in Challenge Soccer in North Carolina to hold Challenge Council as soon as possible and make a final decision on the direction the NCYSA membership wants to go with Challenge State Cup.

There too has been opposition to the age restriction that passed at Challenge Council in November. This will also be back on the agenda as well. If you have other items you wish to add to the agenda, please send your request to challenge@ncsoccer.org and it will be added to the agenda.

This decision will be made by the challenge liasion and/or president of the local clubs that attend this meeting.   I urge you to attend this meeting. If you cannot attend, please send someone from your club with your proxy to vote or give that proxy to someone that will be attending.

NCYSA has a list of all challenge liaisons and club presidents. This information was provided to NCYSA by the local clubs. If you received this email and you are not the challenge liaison or club president, please contact NCYSA and update this information ASAP. Only one of three people will be allowed to vote at Challenge Council for their local club. They are the club president, the club challenge liaison or the individual with the proxy. Keep in mind, if you are the club president or the club challenge liaison and you are not on the NCYSA list, you will not be able to vote.

If you wish to discuss my decision, you can reach me via email @ kprice@triad.rr.com or you can call me at 336-228-0645. This is my home phone so please be considerate of the time of your call.

Best Wishes!
