Old Business

The Council discussed briefly the impact of the U-11 self selection process for this past Fall season.  It was reported that overall it was a good experience for the players and allowed for more competitive match-ups.

The implementation of the first season of the U-10 Academy was also discussed.  It was reported to be a good way to increase player development, was enjoyable for the players and encouraged a tremendous amount of communication within the active Associations.  It was noted that the Greensboro Festival went extremely well and provided a wonderful environment for the players.  Distance and amount of travel was a concern that was mentioned due to the small amount of Clubs participating in the program and the mileage distance between these clubs.  12 Associations participated in the Academy this past Fall.  13 Associations will participate in the Spring with the recent addition of SYSL.

The Council congratulated all USYS and President’s Cup Champions from this past Fall State Cup.

Stephen also thanked the Promotion/Relegation Committee for their hard work over the past month while completing the process to finalize brackets for the Spring 2008.

New Business

Stephen Crane reminded the Council that North Carolina will host the USYS 2008 Regionals.  Therefore, NCYSA would greatly appreciate volunteers from the local Associations.

Proposed Classic Meeting dates 2008

Additional Comments / Announcements

There was a discussion to eliminate non-counting matches.  The majority of the Council agreed that it would be advantageous to eliminate non-counting matches and to encourage friendlies instead.  Non-counting matches are no longer needed (because of the amount of games scheduled in a season) and create scheduling problems.  This discussion was tabled until the next meeting.

Bill Finneyfrock announced that the Committee arranged to discuss elimination of U14 premier division, has decided to wait and see what impact the USSF Academy would have on NCYSA Classic League before making a final decision on this topic.

Further discussion took place regarding dropping recruiting rules based on the premises that Associations without the USSF Academy are at a major disadvantage.  This topic will continue to be researched and discussed at future meetings.

Lastly, Gary Olive introduced the idea of eliminating NCYSA official play dates.  Instead NCYSA would provide Associations with a range to schedule their League matches within.  A proposal for this suggestion must come from the Classic Council.  Further discussion on this topic would then take place at the President’s Meeting held at the AGM in January 2008.

Adjournment

The next Classic Council meeting will be held on Saturday, February 9th immediately following lunch and the Challenge Council meeting.  Approximately 12:00 PM.

 Respectfully submitted by Julie Isley.
