The Council congratulated the teams who had progressed to President’s Cup Regionals, USYS Southern Regionals, and USYS National Championships.

Old Business

There was discussion about the U11 “Self Selection” process, its impact, and scheduling result from the July scheduling meetings. Further discussion and review will take place at the December Classic Council meeting.

There was discussion about the U10 Academy program. This is a new program, which falls between the Challenge Council and Classic Council, and will be developed as a separate committee for review and implementation. The clubs who have chosen to participate were discussed. The schedule for the fall was discussed. Chris Brewer (west) and Bill Furjanic (east) are the defacto leaders of program. It is this council’s understanding that the U10 Academy program will fall under the direction and guidance of the State DOC or Assistant DOC when those positions are filled.

There was discussion about the newly developed USSF Academy program and possible impacts on classic division league, regional, and national competition. 4 large clubs in North Carolina have been selected to participate: CASL, GYSA, NMYSA, and SCSA. John Koslick, president of SCSA, and Chris Brewer, of GYSA, discussed their club’s plans and shared general information with those in attendance. The council discussed the impact on NCPL, R3PL, and ODP participation by players and clubs.

Bill Finneyfrock of CUFC reported on preliminary discussions to review the development status of a state premier level division for U14. Under discussion is the possible elimination of the division. An ad-hoc committee was formed by Finneyfrock in June to discuss this topic and bring recommendations to the Classic Council for action and implementation.

New Business

Julie Isley reported on the development of the Soccer In College program to score and report standings for the fall 2007 season. Teams will be issued login codes to report scores. A new classic webpage has been developed and will be available at www.ncysaclassic.com

An ad-hoc committee was formed to provide the Classic Council with a “competitive flow” recommendation for planning and organizational purposes. We have been tweaking the process for several years in the areas of promotion/relegation, divisional sizes, self-selection, and competition rules. Mike Rattjkob of ABYSA was appointed to lead this committee.

There was discussion about Recruiting issues. A call to drop the recruiting rules was suggested. Council chair, Stephen Crane, responded that this would have to come in the form of a motion no later than November 11 to be included on the agenda for the December meeting. Any action by the Classic Council on this issue would also have to be approved by the general membership of NCYSA.
