Chris Little-Director of Coaching
Education/NCYSA- spoke to the
council members regarding
the
academy program. This program is about
developing players in the U-10 age group.
Bob
Singer (President-NCYSA) asked for a committee to be formed to review the
academy
programs
in other states. This committee consists
of Coaches, Presidents and Association Directors
of
Coaches. Results, stats or standings will not be kept for any games that are
played. This will keep
the
players free from the pressure of parents and coaches. Statistics state that 73% of kids end up
quitting
soccer by the age of 13 due to the sport of soccer no longer being fun, too
much pressure,
and
too competitive. The committee is
working on procedures for the academy to be reviewed by
the
Executive Board Members. The Board of Directors and the Directors of Coaches
are in support of the academy program. The academy program will be optional for
associations to choose. There will be
guidelines for associations who choose to have the academy program in their
club. Each club that chooses the academy
will be required to have a National Youth Licensed Coordinator. NCYSA will
offer the National Youth License course in the spring or summer. The cost for the course is $525.00. Associations will be given a one year grace
period to get their academy coordinator licensed. Each association that is involved with the
academy program will need to have a curriculum in place to oversee the program.
Parent
education programs will be offered in the fall or spring season. Player feedback with a written evaluation will
need to be given to the academy players in the fall and in the spring
season. All
academy
coaches must have a Youth II module license.
Membership to the program is yearly.
The
committee will review association academies annually. Players who participate
in the academy program
will
not be able to participate in other soccer programs or play in
tournaments.
Art
Rex (VP-Player Development/NCYSA) will oversee the academy programs. Other states such as
with
the academy will be allowed to drop the academy and roster to a competitive
team. The cost to register for the academy program will be determined by the
Board of Directors. The cost should be between that of recreation and
challenge. Questions regarding the
academy should be emailed to Chris Little (Director of Coach Education/NCYSA) coach@ncsoccer.org.
