NC YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION COACHING EDUCATION PROGRAMS
In trying to work more with our local associations in the development of coaches and players, NCYSA has designed the following programs to help enhance the level of play across North Carolina. Click here for the current coaching school schedule.
Free Youth Module – The Free Youth Module is designed to provide an
“Introduction” to the coaching education process for the beginner coach. The course is free to those associations that qualify click here for the application. The course is 3 hours usually from
9 AM to 12 Noon.
Youth I - The Youth I Module is designed to provide the most current information on the growth and development of the youth soccer player. The Youth I Module concentrate on developmentally appropriate activities for the U6 and U8 player, to prepare the coach to unlock the “game within the child”, provide a better understanding of the specific age characteristics and learn how to place players in age appropriate activities and gain understanding of developmental characteristics of children at this age. By developing these activities, we are allowing the game to be the teacher while providing a fun, organized, training session without too much stress on the player. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field/lecture/discussion. The course is a 6 hour course usually from 9 AM to 3 PM and the cost is: $25 for an NCYSA Members/$35 for a Non-members
Youth II - The Youth II Module is designed to provide the most current information on the growth and development of the youth soccer player. The Youth II Module concentrate on developmentally appropriate activities for the U10 and U12 player, to prepare the coach to unlock the “game within the child”, provide a better understanding of the specific age characteristics and learn how to place players in age appropriate activities and gain understanding of developmental characteristics of children at this age. Goalkeeper Module – The Goalkeeper Module is designed specifically for coaches working with player’s ages 9 to 14 as an introduction to training goalkeepers. The curriculum focuses on the development of the goal keeper both as an individual as well as a part of the team. The emphasis will be on the player’s technical development through specific individual training and by applying tactical concepts within game situations. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field / lecture/ discussion. The course is a 7 hour course usually from 9 AM to 4 PM and the cost is: $35 for an NCYSA Member / $45 for a Non-member
TOP Soccer – The Top Soccer Coaching Certificate is designed for the parent/coach who may or may not have any previous soccer playing experience and is interested in working with young athletes with special needs. The curriculum focuses on technical development activities and physical participation opportunities for special needs athletes. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field / lecture/ discussion. The course is a 4 hour course usually from 9 AM to 1 PM and the cost is: $25 for an NCYSA Member / $35 for a Non-member
F - This course is designed specifically for the coach working with, U12 players and older, as an introduction to 11-a-side youth soccer. The curriculum focuses on the development of the player both individually and as part of the team. Working with larger practice numbers and systems of play will also be addressed within the course. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field/lecture/discussion. The course is an 8 hour course usually from 9 AM to 5 PM and the cost is: $45 for an NCYSA Members/$55 for a Non-members. This course serves as a preparatory course for the “E” License course.
E – F certificate is recommended but not required to attend the E course. This course is designed specifically for the coach working with U13 players and older. The curriculum focuses on the development of the player both individually and as part of the team. The emphasis is to build on the player’s technical training by applying tactical concepts within game situations. There is no practical coaching test, however, each candidate is given a practice coaching opportunity and given feedback. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field/lecture/discussion. The course is 18 hours which is usually conducted on Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 9 PM and then from 8 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday & Sunday and the cost is: $75 NCYSA Members/$85 Non-members. This course serves as a prerequisite for the”D” License course.
D – Pre-requisite "E" License. This course is designed for the coach working with U13 and higher aged players and is the highest license that the state office offers. The emphasis of the course is to prepare coaches to further the development of the player’s technical application to the demands of the game, as well as expand the player’s tactical awareness within the team. Coaches are expected to participate in all activities; field/lecture/discussion. The course is 36 hours usually conducted on Friday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM and then from 8 AM to 5 PM on Saturday & Sunday over two consecutive weekends. The candidates will be graded on practical coaching/field exam experience; written tests that cover care & prevention of injuries and laws of the game; and an oral exam.
