The untimely death of Dave Williams on Friday, April 23, 2004 created a void in the NCASA soccer family that can never be filled. He brought a positive spirit and a love for the sport that will forever be remembered. The sense of loss is greatest in the North Carolina referee community, of which Dave was a vibrant and critical part. The members of the North Carolina Adult Soccer Association will also feel the loss, however. Dave served as an active member of the Association’s Executive Committee for an extended period of time. He contributed meaningfully in every meeting and provided a vital communication link between the soccer players and administrators of NCASA and the soccer officials of the North Carolina Soccer Referees Association.Accordingly, by action of the NCASA Executive Committee, the NCASA DAVE WILLIAMS AWARD is hereby established. It is to be awarded annually to a member of the North Carolina soccer community who, in the judgment of the NCASA Executive Committee, has contributed significantly to the wellbeing of soccer in North Carolina, particularly through selfless actions that exemplify the spirit of going beyond the “call of duty” and embody a true love for the game of soccer.
