SHEAR POWER WINS THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT VETERAN’S CUP TITLE –

AS REGION IV RUNS THE TABLE AT THE 2004 VETERAN’S CUP

57 teams from 17 state associations participated in the 2004 Veteran’s Cup which

was held June 23nd through 27th at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park in Honolulu. It was

the second largest tournament ever, only slightly smaller than 2003 when 65 teams took

part. It was also the second year in a row that the Hawaii Soccer Association hosted the

event.

Shear Power of Washington won their third straight women’s over-50 title as Sue Potter

scored both goals to lift her team over Vaiete of Hawaii 2 to 1 in overtime. Hawaii won

their first two national titles in the Veteran’s Cup as Leahi Blue knocked off Mojo of

Cal South 1 – 0 in overtime and Honolulu United defeat Sacramento Turn Verein 4 to 1

to win the men’s over-40 1st division championship. Golden State Oldies of Cal North

won their second straight men’s over-50 title with a 2 – 0 victory over California Gold

of Cal South. It took overtime for San Francisco overtime to defeat Vaiete of Hawaii

1 – 0 to capture the women’s over-40 premier championship. Northwest Connection of

Washington downed Imua Wahine 4 to 0 to claim the women’s over-40 1st division championship. In an all Washington final, Cascade Avalanche defeated the defending

champion Seattle Sounders Select 55, 1 to 0 to capture the women’s over-55 title. In

another rematch from 2003, the Greek Americans from Cal North defeated the defending

champion Tri-Alliance from Washington, 1 – 0 to win the men’s over-40 premier title.

Finally, California Gold of Cal South defeated Atlanta 55 of Georgia, 3 – 0 to capture the

men’s over-55 championship.

Many thanks to the Hawaii Soccer Association, Donna Fouts, Jack Sullivan, Frank Doyle and all of the volunteers in Hawaii who made our stay there such a success!

The tournament moves to Wilmington, North Carolina for 2005 and 2006. The dates for the tournament next year will be June 22 – 26, 2005. The event will be hosted by the North Carolina Adult Soccer Association. In 2005 we will add new divisions for over-45 women, over-35 men and over-60 men.
