What
a great USSF AGM!
The
Annual General Meeting (AGM) serves as U.S.
Soccer’s national meeting with all
constituents from the youth, adult, professional
and athlete councils. Representatives from each
of these councils discuss administrative issues,
review and vote on rule changes and conduct
various other businesses during the course of
the event.
North
Carolina had five representatives at the USSF
AGM. Photographed above (from left to
right) is Tom O'Shea, the former Executive Vice
President, Bill Sweeney, the current Executive
Vice President, Bob Kepner, our Treasurer, and
John Bouda, the North Carolina State Referee
Administrator. Unphotographed, but in
attendance was George Navarro, our Vice
President of Eastern North Carolina.
Much
was accomplished this year. At the
Veterans Cup Progress Meeting there was a
meeting of all principals affecting refereeing
of the upcoming Veterans Cup. It is
believed a framework was developed to ensure
successful smooth operations at the event.
Also,
our distinguished Bob Kepner did an outstanding
job as Chair of the Credentials Committee,
successfully running the voting operations of
the National Council. This year we saw Dr.
S. Robert Contiguglia step down from his two
consecutive terms as USSF President, to be
replaced, by unanimous decision, by Sunil Gulati.
Gulati has been the Vice President since 2000.
The remainder of the Vice President term will be
fulfilled by Mike Edwards. With nearly 30
years of service at all levels of soccer, Gulati
will be an excellent President.
| “I
am honored to serve our membership in
this capacity and look forward to
helping to continue to guide our sport
through the most prosperous period in
our history,” said Gulati. “Across
the past decade, a platform for this
sport has been built that did not
previously exist, and we now have an
opportunity in the coming years to
achieve more for soccer in the United
States than anyone could have ever
envisioned 15 or 10 or even five years
ago.” |
