Your pathway to becoming a US Soccer-licensed coach — from GrassRoots through the B License.
Coaching Education Courses Are Now Available for 2026!
There are a couple steps that need to be completed before you can attend a US Soccer Coaching Education course.
- Create a US Soccer Coach profile in the Learning Center
- Complete the “free” online Introduction to Grassroots course
Take an Online Course!
Complete ONE 2-hour Grassroots module (4v4, 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11). Each of these courses build on the principles covered in the Introduction to Grassroots module and offer a more in-depth look at the US Soccer’s Grassroots Coaching Education philosophy and methodology. Each course includes a SafeSport module and the Introduction to Safe & Healthy Playing Environments module. Candidates will be challenged to reflect on their experiences to develop action steps for personal growth.
Let’s Meet In-Person!
Complete TWO 4-hour Grassroots courses (4v4, 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11). The courses are 4 hours in length total consisting of 2 hours in the classroom and 2 hours of field components. The purpose of these courses is to prepare coaches to work with players from U6 to U13 & older in a participation environment focusing on 4v4, 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11 game models. The goal of the courses are to understand the basic needs of the grassroot players, structure of the game, structure of the training session and the basic tasks of the grassroots coach. The learning environment for the student coach will be discussion, collaboration, and hands-on training session. When searching for a Grassroots course below, filter by location – North Carolina.
D Course Is Up Next!
After completing the Introduction to Grassroots, one online course (2hrs) and two Grassroots License 4-hour courses then you are eligible to enroll in the D Course. The D License course is 9-weeks including virtual online interactions and two in-person weekends. This blended format combines online experience, assignments, small group meetings, independent learning, and in-person meeting. Moving Up to the C Course!
Once you hold the D License for 6 months then you can enroll in the C Course. This 16-week course consists of virtual online interactions and one four day in-person meeting. This blended format combines online experience, assignments, small group meetings, independent learning, and in-person meeting. Students who register for this course can expect weekly learning opportunities that will feature a mixture of independent learning using online modules, live virtual meetings, and in-person meetings led by a licensed U.S. Soccer Educator. Finishing Up With the B Course!
Once you hold the C License for one calendar year then you can enroll in the B Course. This 32-week course consists of virtual online interactions and two four day in-person meetings. This blended format combines online experience, assignments, small group meetings, independent learning, and an in-person meeting. Coaches who register for this course can expect weekly learning opportunities that will feature a mixture of independent learning using online modules, live virtual meetings, and two (2) 4-day in-person meetings led by licensed U.S. Soccer Educators. This is the highest USSF Coaching license course currently offered in NC. When searching for a B course below, filter by location – North Carolina.
