SafeSport Training Overview

In accordance with Federal Law S.534 – Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, every Adult NCYSA Participant is required to complete the initial SafeSport Trained Core course their first seasonal year with a refresher course required each following seasonal year until full SafeSport Training is required again. NCYSA also requires all Minor participants to complete the SafeSport course appropriate for their age each seasonal year.

NC Youth Soccer Risk Management will utilize the US Center for SafeSport, recognized by the US Olympic Committee, to provide training and education to our membership concerning incidents regarding sexual abuse of minors, bullying, and other misconduct issues.

Adult Participant (18 & older) – Coaches, Managers, Board Members, Staff, & Volunteers: Instructions and the Enrollment Key link to the free ADULT “SafeSport Trained – US Soccer Federation” course is included within the NCYSA Risk Management Application (see link at right).

Minor Participant (17 & younger) – Coaches, TOPSoccer Buddies, & Volunteers:  Instructions and the Enrollment Key link to the free MINOR age-appropriate training is included within the NCYSA Risk Management Application (see link at right).  As of the 2022-2023 seasonal year, Minor SafeSport training is REQUIRED, and a certificate of completion must be uploaded to the Minor’s NCYSA Risk Management application.

As a reminder, all minor aged coaches and volunteers must have either a Team Official or a KidSafe pass on them when they are working with younger players and/or the TOPSoccer program.  Local Member Associations can order their own KidSafe passes within the NCYSA SinC HQ system.  A KidSafe pass can only be printed for those minors that have completed a NCYSA Risk Management application.  (A background check is not ordered for anyone under the age of 18 years old).

Adult Athlete (17 and older) – Registered Players: Instructions and the Enrollment Key link to the free ADULT “SafeSport Trained – US Soccer Federation” course is included within the NCYSA Risk Management Application (see link at right).

Parent and Minor Athlete: The U.S. Center for SafeSport has a FREE Parent and two, age-appropriate Minor Athlete Training modules available at www.safesporttrained.org – These courses do NOT meet the requirements for Adult Participant and Adult Athlete SafeSport training. Please see instructions within your NCYSA Risk Management application to obtain the correct training course at no charge.
